The Best of Both Worlds
This shape was created by combining the blade and throat of the popular R1A shape, with the flared tube of the Herzberg shape.
The flair at the end of the tube allows for more bevelling, opening up the inner dimensions of the reed.
Accurate and unique
Our straight shapers for bassoon have several unique features:
Silicone inserts at the center of the shaper hold profiled cane in place while shaping, and can be removed for those who shape their cane before profiling.
Markings at the thinnest point of the shaper hightlight the point at which the blade and shaping direction should be reversed.
The outer pair of lines are set 118 mm apart (148 mm for contrabassoon), to help center cane cut at this shorter length.
Variety of Forms
In order to guarantee absolute symmetry, we manufacture our shaping forms using the latest CNC technology. Through complex hardening processes, the contour remains unchanged cut by cut – for years to come.
