A Little Extra Flair
This shape was created by taking the Skinner-Braunstein Shape and adding a flair towards the end of the tube. This flair allows it to fit on larger bocals while also providing space for a bevel.
The reed maker who requested this shape recommends a tube length of 34 mm and a blade length of 37 mm.
Accurate and unique
Our straight shapers for bassoon have several unique features:
Silicone inserts at the center of the shaper hold profiled cane in place while shaping, and can be removed for those who shape their cane before profiling.
Markings at the thinnest point of the shaper hightlight the point at which the blade and shaping direction should be reversed.
The outer pair of lines are set 118 mm apart (148 mm for contrabassoon), to help center cane cut at this shorter length.
Variety of Forms
In order to guarantee absolute symmetry, we manufacture our shaping forms using the latest CNC technology. Through complex hardening processes, the contour remains unchanged cut by cut – for years to come.
