The ultimate Machine for gouging your Cane.
The Reeds ‘n Stuff gouging machine is the ultimate machine for gouging your cane. Its newly designed cylindrical blade provides the most accurate cuts and a perfectly smooth surface. And an ingenious thickness adjustment keeps the blade centred at any settings.Forget all the problems you have heard about the old gouging machines. Changing the blades is now very easy, anyone can do it! No need to send the machine to a mechanic or back to the factory for adjustment - no more trouble after sharpening the blades.
Variety of bases and blades.
You can choose from a wide variety of bases and blades to gouge to the diameter of your choice, making the one machine for Oboe, Oboe d’amore, English horn and Baroque Oboes. Available in diameters Ø 10 / 10.5 / 11 / EH or Baroque Oboe.
A “change of clothes” for your cane
During the rainy season, reeds often get overly hard and out of control.
And in cold, dry winter air, they can close down excessively.
Changing the thickness of the gouge doesn't help much;
we recommend changing the relationship between the center and the sides.
A small replacement kit for our gouging machines can do just this,
helping you react to changing seasonal and weather conditions.
For the rainy season, we recommend gouging the sides somewhat thinner.
The standard with a REEDS 'N STUFF gouging machine
with a 10.5-mm bed is an 11.41-mm blade unit.
With the small replacement kit, you can exchange it for an 11.6-mm blade unit.
In the winter, we recommend thicker sides relative to the center.
With the small replacement kit, you can switch to an 11.3-mm blade unit
(on a machine with the standard 10.5-mm bed),
effectively converting your gouger to meet seasonal conditions.
You can perform these adjustments yourself in a few easy steps.

The W gouge is a typical American thing, they off-center the blade to make one side thinner, then flip the cane over and make the other side thinner too. Theis creates a little spine in the middle which is similar to the middle of the letter W.
