Here are Adam Shapiros suggestions for the use of the AJS3 form which was built after his recommendations:
The AJS3 shaper works well with oboes that require a smaller baroque reed, such as the Eichentopf copies, Kube Stanesby, and Bradbury copies. It is fairly parallel the last third of the reed to lend stability to the upper register left hand. You can use the Chiarugi 54 or 57 staple by tying at 27 to 28 mm exposed cane. For the Hammer H2 staple, tie at 26 exposed. For a two part staple, use a Chiarugi 3 or 2+ Cor staple tied at 27 mm exposed. Finished reeds tend to be 24 mm exposed past the staple end.
