The wooden core of the Japanese instrument swab is wrapped by a cloth and tied over the entire length. This helps prevent damage to the inner bore of the instrument and also alleviates concerns about the swab getting stuck in the instrument.
The lint-free cloth absorbs moisture evenly from the inside of the instrument.
